Meeting Activities and Interests

Members of the Meeting have a wide range of interests, but some activities undertaken with the support of the whole Meeting are:

Homelessness

Members of the Meeting take it in turns to prepare a dinner for those staying at the Leatherhead Night Hostel every other Monday. Our bank account is with the Quaker Social Housing Account in the Triodos Bank so that our money is helping the homeless while we are not using it.

Peace and Social Witness
Prayer Vigil in Dorking

Members of our Peace and Social Witness Committee, with the support of the Meeting, write letters to world leaders, MPs and other people, write to the press and organise meetings and vigils on issues connected with Peace, Justice and Integrity of Creation. The Meeting subscribes to Campaign Against the Arms Trade, United Nations Association, Friends of Peace Studies (Bradford University Department of Peace Studies) and Oxford Research Group.

We have combined with representatives from local churches to form a Dorking World Affairs Group, which wrote to our MP opposing moves towards war with Iraq and organised prayer vigils in St Martins Church and awareness raising days in Dorking High Street. The Group's latest project was to make Dorking a Fair Trade town. All those interested are welcome to its meetings. Contact us for details.

Environment
We undertook an environmental audit of the Meeting House with the aim of minimising our impact on the environment. Actions arising from this include:
We are an Eco-Congregation in the Churches Environmental Programme of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and obtained the Eco-Congregation Award for 2002 to 2004 and again for 2008 to 2010.
